-benzoxazole: two photostabilizers that undergo excited-state proton transfer

چکیده
Electroabsorption is used to determine the difference dipole moment, NDmN , and the difference polarizability, Da , of Ž . HBT and HBO, two molecules that undergo excited-state intramolecular proton transfer ESIPT . These measurements are Ž ). Ž . compared to ab initio 6-31G and semi-empirical INDO1rs calculations. Good agreement is obtained between ab initio and experimental NDmN values. However, the negative Da values obtained experimentally for both molecules are in disagreement with the calculated Da values which are positive. The absorption maxima, measured as a function of solvent polarity, support the electroabsorption results. Agreement between the observed and calulated shift requires that Da for both molecules be negative. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Mechanism of an Exceptional Class of photostabilizers: a seam of conical intersection parallel to excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) in o-hydroxyphenyl-(1,3,5)-triazine.
We present a detailed CASSCF study of the mechanism of excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) in the o-hydroxyphenyl triazine class of photostabilizers. The valence-bond analysis of the ground state and the two pipi* excited states permits a simple chemical interpretation of the mechanistic information. Our results show that the barrier to enol-keto tautomerism on the ground-state...
متن کاملZinc binding-induced near-IR emission from excited-state intramolecular proton transfer of a bis(benzoxazole) derivative.
A bis(benzoxazole) derivative with metal-chelating ligand (DPA), Zinhbo-1, exhibits a large fluorescence turn-on effect (up to 10-fold) upon zinc-binding. The metal chelation enables excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT), giving an additional emission band in the near-IR region (approximately 710 nm) with a large Stokes shift (ca. 230 nm).
متن کاملZn2+-triggered excited-state intramolecular proton transfer: a sensitive probe with near-infrared emission from bis(benzoxazole) derivative.
Near-infrared (NIR) emission can offer distinct advantages for biological applications. A fluorescent sensor, Zinhbo-1, based on bis(benzoxazole) ligand with 2,2'-dipicolylamine (DPA) as receptor, was synthesized. In aqueous solution, Zinhbo-1 demonstrates high sensitivity and selectivity for sensing Zn(2+) with about 10-fold enhancement and nanomolar sensitivity (K(d) = 0.29 nM). Moreover, sen...

The excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) mechanisms of 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole (HBO), bis-2,5-(2-benzoxazolyl)-hydroquinone (BBHQ) and 2,5-bis(5'-tert-butyl-benzoxazol-2'-yl)hydroquinone (DHBO) have been investigated using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT). The calculated vertical excitation energies based on the TDDFT method reproduced the experimental abs...
متن کاملIntramolecular Proton Transfer and Tunnel Effects in the Metastable Triplet States of 2-(2’-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole Studied by Micro- and Nanosecond Laser Flash Photolysis
The enol-keto tautomerism of 2-(2’-hydrophenyl)benzoxazole (HBO) in its metastable triplet states has been studied in fluid, non-polar solution. After laser flash excitation the keto triplet state is populated with high efficiency. The establishment of a ketoenol equilibrium was observed between 55 and 220 K. At low temperatures the rate of this reaction is determined by tunnel effects. The bar...
